For Prospective Ph.D. Students:

Dr. Hartley will be reviewing applications for Ph.D. students in the upcoming 2026-2027 cycle.

If you are interested in joining the lab as a Ph.D. student, you should apply to NYU's program in Cognition and Perception within the Department of Psychology. You can find more information about the application process here.

Research in the lab is highly interdisciplinary and benefits from NYU's rich an
collaborative environment. Graduate students in the lab have a lot of flexibility in determining their own research direction, so what would be most helpful to get a sense of "fit" is to articulate in your research statement your own interests and how you see them as connecting to the lab’s research focus (as well as the research of any other faculty in the department — we are very open to co-mentorship or collaboration). The research focus of the lab is always evolving, but you can get a sense of specific recent topics of interest by looking at our latest publications and preprints.
